What’s on offer to learners…

Making jewellery has been my most fulfilling, inspiring, all-consuming and exciting adventure yet, so it is time to share my knowledge and enthusiasm for all things sparkly with you. I am a firm believer of a) learning new skills (and that is not just the primary school teacher in me talking!) and b) passing skills on to others. You never know where a new skill will lead you and the possibilities are endless.

I have participated in a number of courses, jewellery based and many others and my most treasured learning experience was thanks to my Grandad leaving me a little bit of money in his will. I had already got the jewellery-making bug, so I booked a 1:1 session with an amazing experienced jeweller in North Wales. There I learned basic skills and then went on to embellishment. I made my first real silver ring and I was totally in love! My desperation to learn more exploded and I needed to go back for more sessions. So, armed with some new tools, a bit more practise and some extra cash I had saved, I booked a week long course of mornings, where my tutor taught me everything I needed for setting round stones. We experimented with collet style, how to make a range of collets and bezels, different textures and fixing techniques, the utmost importance of cleaning each component as you go and finally, the all important setting of the stone. I was pretty pleased with myself and wore my rings with pride everywhere I went, never taking them off - until I made the next one, and the next, and the next…

So, here I am. It is now my turn and I am offering new skills and experiences to those of you with creating in your blood. I have not once regretted learning how to work with metals and stones and I hope to give you the chance to feel the same way too!

Simple Stone Setting

This is aimed at those with a little experience with basic techniques already, but can be available for beginners on a longer course.

In this module, you will make a ring shank, learn how to make collets or bezels to fit your chosen stone, then learn how to solder the joints, clean up the ring and polish before setting. Once the ring is ready, you will then set your stone, completing your ring ready to take home.
